My 3 little ones,
Guys…the truth is that it’s almost March as I catch you up on December. And I had these pictures ready to go a month and a half ago. so the procrastination on writing is just getting worse and worse. And most likely, my recall on December is getting worse and worse. But I will try to quickly summarize our month.
December was pretty typical for us. We worked our way through an Advent book, celebrated many Christmas traditions, baked a lot of cookies, and started some new traditions. We had visits from Grandma Lois, Nana, and Grandma and Pap. We watched the Steelers end their season. We made a trip to PA for M.R.’s traditional Christmas meal out. Our lifegroup rode the big bus to Bethlehem village in Afton (we’d never been there before- it was cold, but fun!) and ended the night at Sheetz. In less exciting news, Poppy had surgery on his head to remove the skin cancer spot; but the result was good, because they got it all!
The 4 of us spent several nights looking at Christmas lights in different places. We started the new tradition of opening one present a day, starting about a week before Christmas— that way you get to spend a lot more time being happy about each present— I think we all liked how that went. Christmas Eve and Christmas day were similar to most years.
On Christmas Eve, Mason, you and I went shopping alone in Harrisonburg for the last few things we needed. We had fun getting a slice of pizza for lunch, and then getting a little snack at Barnes and Noble before heading home. You started a new thing at the end of the month with “strong water” from Mrs. Tricia. We’re hoping to help with some of your anger at home. In school you’ve been doing great especially with Bible verses, Spelling, and Reading!
Rylan, I got to go to your Christmas party at school. You were a wiseman, and you were the cutest. I love how excited you are when I come to school for anything. You were sick for a day or two this month during Christmas break, but you got better without having to go to the doctor, and it didn’t last too long. You have LOVED listening to the Michael Buble Christmas cd this past month. One time you asked me to come up during rest time to listen to a song that you said reminded you of me: “All I want for Christmas is you.” During each phrase of the song, you would pause it, and say “I agree with that.” Also, in our Kids Fun Music playlist, you said the song “We’re Better Together” reminded you of me too. I mean….come on, how sweet are you?
Elli, you have been so excited about your pink Bible, and you finally got it for Christmas! You also got some makeup which you enjoyed— especially when the boys put it on you. You were actually the first one who got sick; you had a fever for a couple days, but you also got better without having to go to the doctor or staying sick long. You have had a hard time letting Mommy and Daddy leave the room when it’s sleeping time, and this month you’ve cried a LOT when we leave for naps or night time. (Have I mentioned your two beds in these letters yet? If not, you sleep in your crib for night time, but you sleep on the mattress on the floor with the Lightning McQueen sheets on it during nap time. And we say, “Sun’s up, Blue Bed!” or “Sun’s asleep, Big Bed!” When you’re going to sleep, you like to hear 1….2….5 songs. Your favorites are Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children, The B-I-B-L-E, I Love You Elli, and You Are My Sunshine (sung by Daddy).
Y’all really said a lot of funny things this month- so this makes up for all the months recently that I’ve only had one or two quotes.
“Deacons are men in the church who are...in charge of stuff....”
”Poppy’s in charge of almost everything in the church.”
“I wish this wasn’t all we had on Christmas. I wish we just had life group....cause I hate this.”
“I like to have long fingernails because it looks cool and because you can chunk dirt under them and it feels good when you dig it out.”
“Ah me a coffee burp!”
“Rylan, if you do wrestling, whatever you do, don’t bite someone’s ear off. You’ll get diqualified.”
“Me a mean girl ah (to) you.”
“Daddy a-got (forgot) a-hug a-me. And kiss-a me.”
“I made up my own superhero a long time ago. Like a month ago. I don’t talk about him much.”
“Mommy, why did you walk over here....instead of slither??”
“You too funny, Daddy.”
“Mason, apologize in your head and I’ll answer.”
“Mommy, Why god pee?”
“I’m awake!! Wiiide wide awake!”
“Mommy, are panthers exconked?”
“Ow!! I pulled a bone!!”
“When I’m an old man, I want my last words to be the ABC’s.”
“If I were a betting man, I wouldn’t do my homework.”
Ok! I think I summed it up! 2019 was full of fun things, and I’m looking forward to 2020!
